Saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.”

Our music program is in a season of transition. We don’t currently have a regular staff musician, in part because our historic E.M. Skinner organ—now more than 100 years old—is in urgent need of repair. A two-year capital campaign to restore the main stained glass window also includes the necessary work to bring this instrument back to life.
Whenever there is music in the service, you will hear the rich tradition of classical American Anglican hymnody on organ or piano. At Children and Family services, the music shifts to be more child-friendly—often sung a cappella or with light accompaniment, led by Fr. Sam. At other times, simple chants from the Taizé community help us pray in beauty and quiet.
Even without a permanent musician, music is central to our life together. We regularly welcome guest musicians into worship, and partner with local congregations during Advent and Holy Week for services entirely devoted to music—Tenebrae, Evensong, Lessons & Carols, and more. These services remind us that music is not an accessory to faith, but one of its deepest expressions.

St. Paul’s is also a space for music beyond our own worship. We open our church to visiting performers and ensembles, usually asking only an at-will offering and that events be open to the public. In this way we carry forward the long tradition of churches as homes for public music, where sacred space helps amplify beauty for the whole community.
If you are interested in having our space be where your next music performance is held, please contact us!
