Wed, February 11th, 7:00 Art and Faith Forum
Join Fr. Sam on the evening of February 11th for a visual journey through Christian art history that goes far beyond the Renaissance masters most of us know.
We'll explore nearly 2,000 years of Christian artistic expression—from 5th-century Ethiopian rock churches to Byzantine mosaics, from illuminated manuscripts created under Muslim rule to Russian icons, from the Protestant Reformation's visual protest to modern interpretations of Christ from cultures around the world.
This isn't your typical art history lecture focusing only on white European Christianity. We'll see how Christians across continents and centuries have depicted the Gospel in ways that reflect their own cultures—and discuss how these images shape (and sometimes distort) our understanding of Scripture.
Expect everything from medieval tapestries to... Darth Vader on the National Cathedral. Because Christian art has always used what communities know and love to celebrate the Good News.
All are welcome for this fascinating look at how faith and art intersect across time and culture.
